EVENTS:

Journey of Discovery: Living into God’s Call / PaTH (Practicing and Teaching Hope)

In 2005 our church board affirmed our congregation’s participation in a three-year transformation process called Journey of Discovery: Living into God’s call.  No “quick fix,” it's a prayerful, scripture-based journey for our congregation to discern together God's call to us in our community.  PaTH (Practicing and Teaching Hope) is the working name chosen for our congregation's transformation process.

In 2005 we celebrated 100 years.  Now we're beginning a new journey; through prayer and study we'll listen as the guiding Spirit of God calls us to faithful discipleship now and in the future.  Join us on the PaTH!  CLICK TO LEARN MORE MORE ABOUT PaTH

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Back to school ministry a huge success!

Asked if there was any interest in supporting an adopt-a-child program through Helping Hand House, the FCC Puyallup congregation responded!  Through your generosity, HHH ran out of kids!  In very short order we were able to provide school supplies for:

18 children (homeless and/or in transitional housing from homelessness) in partnership with HHH;

2 neighborhood children;

14 global children through Church World Service;

and $600 worth of supplies for kids in the United States through World Vision.

Your generosity is astounding and humbling!

Thanks for supplies for hygiene kits for Haiti earthquake survivors

Thanks to those who donated supplies, time and financial support toward our earthquake kits for Haiti survivors; we were able to compile about 61 kits.  They will be on their way shortly to Church World Service and Haiti!

Do you have ideas for making our church more energy efficient or earth-friendly?
Let us know!

Mixed Paper Recycling

Blue recycle bins have been placed around the church rooms for recycling mixed papers.  Please use the bins for all clean paper products that cannot be reused.

Aluminum, Tin, Plastic & Glass recycling

During A Week in Mission: Creation Care, a recycle bin enclosure was painted and assembled (made from recycled picket fence sections and three old garbage cans found around the church and not in use).  Church-generated recyclable waste may be placed in the bins outside the kitchen door and will be taken home to the recycle bins of volunteers for recycling.

Green hospitality program

Whenever possible, we use washable, reusable glasses and mugs or paper cups for coffee and tea (instead of earth unfriendly styrofoam or plastic), and wash "real" plates and cutlery to lessen the load on the landfills and Mother Earth.

Turn in used ink & toner cartridges and discarded cell phones

Bring empty printer ink and toner cartridges to the church office for recycling and fundraising.  We also recycle cell phones.

Recycle your burned out light bulbs!

FCC member Lisa Peterson will transform your old light bulbs of various shapes and sizes into hand painted ornaments!  Drop off your used light bulbs outside the church office.

More 'Greening' ideas welcomed!

Recently several very old dial thermostats were replaced with digital programmable ones.  The kitchen dishwasher is utilized more and more frequently (and used exclusively by Freezing Nights).  Styrofoam, plastic and paper, cups, plates and utensils have been replaced with 'real' plates, mugs, glasses and cutlery.  Efforts are being made to recycle our old fluorescent tubes, and incandescent lights are being replaced with CFL (fluorescent) bulbs.  Coffee grounds are being saved and worked into a church member's compost bin.

Worship Service CDs now available upon request

Contact a member of the sound in worship ministry team or the church office to request a CD of our worship or special services.  These can be used for visitations or special remembrances.  The cost to cover materials is $1 for each CD.

Youth Volunteer Training

Part of our commitment to the youth of our congregation includes our Child Abuse Prevention Policy (CAPP).  This policy states all church employees and volunteers who work with children and/or youth must complete the training.  The training provides information about the unfortunate realities concerning child sexual abuse, and outlines our policies aimed at reducing the risk of such abuse.  Read our Child Abuse Protection Policy

100 Years of Ministry & Fellowship

From October 2004 to October 2005 we commemorated our first century with fellowship, remembrances, tributes, guests, mission projects, and fun!  We've taken a look into our future by starting new ministries and revitalizing existing ones.

200 years ago, the seeds of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) took root, and for 100 years First Christian Church of Puyallup has faithfully sown its service and ministries within our congregation, community, and the global parish.  We have much to celebrate!
