Spreading the Joy & Revolutionary Love
This year the season of Advent begins December 1st and leads to Christmas. It marks the time in the Christian year focusing on Mary’s pregnancy and events surrounding the coming birth of Jesus (read the scripture here) as she waited and prepared. At FCC Puyallup we’ll consider Advent from two distinct viewpoints:
“Spreading the Joy” this Advent
Sundays through Advent at 9:30 am we’ll focus on spreading the joy of the birth! Highlighting the 300th anniversary of the beloved carol Joy to the World, special Advent activities, projects, and gifts will be available to make, take home, and share — spreading the joy — each week. (See the weekly projects here.)
A Revolution of Love
Then, the Advent theme during our 11 am Worship services will look from another angle at Mary’s pregnancy as “A Revolution of Love,” and consider the ways her response to God’s call created paradox — revolution — at every turn: shadow to light, war to peace, hate to love. “A Revolution of Love” will consider Mary’s courageous response that would change the world.
Following along at home
Don’t forget to take a bulletin cover or coloring sheet each week of Advent, and grab a devotional booklet, Advent in Full Color, to follow along from home. Each devotional contains ways to consider the four weeks of the season through prayer, song, conversation, and practices that will keep you focused on the meaning of the season.
