Acknowledgement of Land

(An act towards reconciliation)

For thousands of years, First Nations people have walked on this land; their relationship with the land is at the center of their lives and spirituality.  We are gathered on the traditional territory of the Coastal Salish and Puyallup people, and we acknowledge their stewardship of this land throughout the ages.

GATHERING & EXPLORING

Set apart your worship space by lighting a candle along with the video clip.  The light of the candle symbolizes the presence of the Holy wherever we are.

You can find all of the lectionary readings for Sunday, August 9, 2020 here:  https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=154

Benediction        from Remaining Awake through a Great Revolution
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  .

God grant that we will be participants

n this newness and this magnificent development.

If we will but do it, we will bring about a new day

of justice and brotherhood and peace.

And that day the morning stars will sing together

and the sons of God will shout for joy.

God bless you.

–One of King’s last public prayers, recited at the end of his sermon “Remaining Awake through a Great Revolution.”  The sermon was preached at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., on March 31, 1968, five days before King was assassinated. King paraphrases Job 38:6–7.
